I can’t imagine growing up without my older brother or younger sister. I literally can’t. Of course when we were younger, we definitely fought.. a lot. If you asked my 13 year old self if I would be writing a blog post about how much I love my siblings I would of definitely laughed in your face and thought you were lying!! I mean, my brother used to lock me in the basement to scare me, causing me to retaliate and scratch him. Or sometimes the better revenge was just to scream and cry for a straight hour to my parents until they couldn’t handle it anymore and would have to yell at him just to shut me up!
Because my brother picked on me, I thought it was only fair to boss my younger sister around and give her a taste of what I had to deal with. We would pull each others hair, hit each other and brag about how many more toys we had than the other. But through all the bickering, we were all so unbelievably close. Me and my sister would collect these little animals figures and just play with them for hours and hours. I would usually tell her what to say, and she would go along with it because I was older, aka “the boss”.
However some of my favorite moments from childhood are from when all five of us were having dinner together at home. We would all just be joking around and teasing each other and laughing so much. We have so many inside jokes that only we truly appreciate, and we have all witnessed each other growing up through both good and bad times. Now that I am 20, I feel closer than I ever have to both of them and I feel seriously lucky for that. They are both two of my best friends, and I know they will always be there for me just like I will always be there for them. There really is nothing I would feel uncomfortable telling them – and that is a really great feeling.
I just felt like writing this post because my brother is coming up to Boston to visit me this weekend and my sister is coming the weekend after.. and it made me think about how lucky that I am to have them and have such a close relationship with them. I know they will probably make fun of me for this post because it definitely is very corny.. but I know they will also love the shout out !!
